This past week, I undertook an exam that had consumed a major part of my life for the past two years. When you undertake an activity that has consumed a huge part of your life and suddenly when it is gone, it leaves you feeling quite empty. You are in a state of wondering about what is next. I was in a similar state too.

When you’re in your teens and twenties, studying is your JD. It is what you are meant to do, the thirties feel different to me. I no longer feel satisfied by pursuing activities solely to further my profile/career. I want to be a productive and contributing member of society.

It was this yearning that I felt after I undertook this exam. I wanted to contribute. Most of our jobs consume us to only a certain degree. On busy days they perhaps consume 80–100%, on not-so-busy ones it would be less than 50%. Such is the nature of jobs and employment. You’re there to fulfill your role to the max as and when needed, in the meantime, you just keep pressing. Well, I find myself in a similar situation too and so I was yearning for something that challenged me more.

In comes a post from a public health colleague. An emergency response team is seeking team leads and coordinators for a medical response in Gaza. This was exactly what I was praying for the night before as I lay in bed praying to God to give me something that helped me contribute to the world in a greater way.

As soon as I saw this post I explored it further. Most of the professional requirements I fulfilled, however, the limitation on this work would be my Pakistani passport since the job required a transit through Israel.

Regardless, I sent in my application with my cover letter. If God has this in his plan for me, it will work out, if not then he will send something else my way.

Thank you, God for always listening and for unveiling your universe in your miraculous ways.
